The Big Blogland Secret!

good evening.
or good morning.

I'm writing this in the evening to publish in the morning, but only you know when you'll be reading this, right?

That was a little Inception-like, wasn't it?

Since the Bigs & Littles Blogging Network began a few weeks ago, I've begun to think of Tuesday's as "Blog Day" where I give blog tips, a tutorial, or whatever else I may think of.

So today, on this Tuesday Blog Day, I'm going to fill you in on a little blogland secret:

You don't need to write every single day.

The proof is in the pudding: I did not write a post yesterday.

Why?
I don't know really. I had an amazing weekend(details will be below) but I was just feeling tired Sunday night, and a bit blah on Monday, my tummy was a bit rumble-y, it was windy and cold, and my work day consisted of making PicMonkey Collages for my employer's website(which, it must be said, looks fab, and I had a blast doing it) and I just wasn't feeling...inspired.

So, I chose not to write.
That's the secret folks. You don't need to write every day.
You don't need to feel guilty if you take a day off.
I repeat, do not feel guilty for taking the occasional day off
Life gets in the way, it gets messy, it gets blah, not every single day needs to be documented with a written word.

Now, I will say that inconsistent writing will not win you piles of accolades, but to take a day off every once in a while? Don't feel guilty for that. It happens.
Just like the occasional day job "Mental Health Day" or "Me Day"

On a related note; I was emailing one of my sweet sponsors(they're to the right, go say helllllo...) and also emailing another Big & Little blogger, who asked, how do you write when you can't think of anything to write?

I might be a little weird...
No. I am weird.
I'm an only child, let us just leave it at that, shall we?

I talk to myself. Like, I'll just start talking. To Me.
"So today, it was so frustrating when..."
"It was so fantastic when..."
And next thing I know I'm discussing the pro's and con's of making the bed every day or not.
Just Me, Myself, and I.

I also will turn on music. Really loud music.
So I can't hear myself sing along. I might be tone deaf.
Usually shaking my booty gets the writing started.
So does singing really loudly to some Journey.

I sometimes pour myself a glass of wine.
Just because.

What do you do to get inspired to write?
Does life, writing, and breathing ever seem incredibly overwhelming?

------------------

My weekend:

My parent's flew in to surprise me for my birthday!
Like showed up in my favorite local bar and everything!

Then we went to dinner. And proceeded to eat our way through Kansas until they left at 3:30 Sunday Afternoon.
I just ate my first meal since they left.

On Friday, I ditched out of work at 11:00, my Dad and B went golfing(it was freezing, bytheway) my Mom and I went to a nearby town, Abilene, known for antique stores and Wild West history.
It's a cute little thing, much prettier in spring and summer than mid winter, but hey, I didn't pick my birth date, ok?

No, I didn't take any pictures of real antiques. Just the funny ones.
On Saturday we went to Lawrence, to wander in a bigger Kansas town. And eat more.
Then we took them by Pilsbury Crossings, a natural granite bridge crossing over the river. Don't ask me which river, I think it's a small one that pours into the Kansas River.
Pioneers used it to cross.
I've been gathering little local tidbits like this to be a good tour guide should anyone ever decide to visit. I'm so glad all that brain space was not wasted.

Sunday, we went to a local restaurant/bar called So Long Saloon. It's got this old and gorgeous all wood bar and tin ceiling. Oh and it's decorated Day of the Dead-like. It's fab.

Then I gave them the real tour of Manhattan.
They thought Kansas State has an amazing campus, and that the twon is very cute and "has everything you need, which is unexpected"
I think they're implying that Kansas should only sell tumbleweeds or something
*I have not seen any tumbleweeds here, in case you were wondering

And BOOM.
Here I am.
24 years old.
Celebrating National Drink Wine Day.
don't mind if I do.

  1. I didn't write today. I'm sick. And cold. And no one wants to hear my complaints :)

I get inspired to write usually all at once. I have very little to share this week, which is odd for me.

Happy Birthday! (celebrations should last at least a week)

  2. Amen! I am definitely of the opinion you don't have to write every day. I'm not a big blog but I don't feel bad when I don't write. I feel bad when I wanted to write and I don't get to it, but that's different for me.

  3. Looks like you had a great weekend! It's funny that you brought up the topic of inspiration. I have a post scheduled for tomorrow on that. In short, writing comes easily for me when I'm inspired. I don't sit down and think, I need to write something. I write when it comes to me. Sometimes that means writing in the car. :)

    Happy Belated Birthday!

  5. This is something that has been on my mind lately - I had been putting pressure on myself to blog Mon through Fri but have been coming to realise that just like any regular 'job', it's ok to have a day off! I took a break yesterday and found that when I came back to the blog world today, I was feeling much more inspired and refreshed. Thanks for posting this :)

Oh & what a lovely surprise, that's so sweet of your parents! Happy birthday!
